Il Metato is an old stone building where the inhabitants of the village used as a place to to dry their chestnuts, and is now converted to a lovely stone house with panoramic views of the Apuane mountains, from its stone flagged terrace and beautiful rose filled garden. It is situated in the historical heart of the Tuscan hilltop village of Luscignano, surrounded by chestnut woods and the local villagers vines for making of their own wine, and olive trees, for cultivation and production of their very fine local olive oil. Il Metato has been lovingly converted into an original and comfortable private house with a natural style of living. The ancient structure of the house has been preserved as well as the original stone walls, floors and chestnut wood ceiling beams. With the preservation of these original materials the life and hard work of the ancient community becomes alive.

You enter into the kitchen and dining room and feel the past but it is also fully-equipped with all the modern conveniences that you need for your everyday living: gas stove, electric oven appliance, refrigerator, table with seating for four people, wood chest stocked with dishes and glasses and a beautiful originalmarble sink typical of the Massa Carrara area where we are located. The highlight of the kitchen is an original large stone firewood oven - a true rarity! - where still today it is possible to make your own delicious pizza or bread!!! Walking through an original solid wooden door you enter into the spacious living room with a comfortable sofabed for two people, a large armoire, writing desk, shelves for storage, books, magazines, etc., and a radio. Here you will find a ladder which will lead you to your loft bedroom, with a further sleeping capacity for two people, for a total of four, with a double bed and large armoire for clothing
Step down a few stone steps from the living room into the bathroom, which has been restored with ancient flag stoned floor, and completed with a modern bathtub with shower, toilet, bidet, sink and washing machine. Three ancient wooden steps from the living room lead up to a private terrace filled with fragrant rose bushes. Here you can dine, paint the beautiful surrounding landscape or simply listen to the wind whispering from the peaks of the Api Apuane, while enjoying your favorite book and sipping a glass of wine, waiting to view an unforgettable sunset. Panoramic views surround you from this idyllic garden, and is the perfect place to relax and unwind. The house is ideal for a romantic getaway for a couple and also for a small family with one child or two small children on a budget.
The house is centrally heated. There is parking behind the property.
Conditions Standard arrival time is after 4pm but in some circumstances previous arrangements can be made for an earlier arrival. Similarly, we ask you to leave by 10.30am on your last day unless prior arrangement has been made. House cleaning can be provided upon request. There is a small surcharge of 30 euros for the use of sheets, towels, linens and the cleaning of the apartment upon departure. All other incidentals such as gas, electricity, water and central heating are included.
